The 2025 Formula 1 season is fast approaching, bringing with it renewed excitement and anticipation. As always, F1 teams are working tirelessly on their updated designs for the new season. Based on previous seasons’ trends and the traditional naming conventions of each team, we’ve made predictions about the names of the 2025 F1 cars.
In Formula 1, car names are often influenced by team heritage, sponsorship deals, and technical development strategies. In 2024, for example, Red Bull continued with the “RB20,” Ferrari stuck with the “SF-24,” and McLaren used the “MCL38.” Among the teams, Ferrari is known for frequently adjusting its chassis naming strategy. If any changes are to be expected this year, Ferrari might be the team to watch.
Predicted Names for the 2025 Formula 1 Cars
Red Bull Racing – RB21
Red Bull has consistently adhered to its “RB” naming convention. If this tradition continues, the 2025 car will be named RB21. However, whether the departure of Adrian Newey brings any shifts remains to be seen.
McLaren F1 Team – MCL39
McLaren traditionally uses the “MCL” designation. While the team marked its 60th anniversary with the MCL60 in place of MCL37, the 2025 car is expected to revert to the sequence with MCL39.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas – W16
Mercedes has firmly established the “W” series for its F1 cars. The next in line should logically be the W16 for the 2025 season.
Scuderia Ferrari – SF-25
Ferrari often uses its car names to celebrate its rich history. The 2025 car will likely follow this pattern and be called the SF-25. However, Ferrari is known for surprises, so the official name will be revealed at the launch event.
Aston Martin – AMR25
Aston Martin’s naming system, centered around the “AMR” prefix, points to the 2025 car being named AMR25.
Alpine F1 Team – A525
Alpine has been consistent with its “A5xx” naming strategy. For 2025, the car is expected to be called the A525.
Sauber (Stake F1 Team) – C45
Following the Alfa Romeo era, Sauber returned to its “C” naming format. If this continues, the 2025 car will likely be the C45.
Williams Racing – FW47
Despite changes in ownership, Williams has stayed true to honoring its founder, Frank Williams, by using the “FW” designation. The 2025 car should be named FW47.
Haas F1 Team – VF-25
Haas has stuck with the “VF” naming pattern since its inception, so the 2025 car will likely be the VF-25.
Racing Bulls (VCARB) – VCARB 02
Formerly known as AlphaTauri, Racing Bulls introduced the VCARB-01 in 2024 following sponsorship changes. Assuming continuity, the 2025 car will likely be the VCARB-02.
