Lewis Hamilton will test drive Ferrari early, it was revealed a few days ago. Now, details of these tests have been revealed.
Ferrari is planning to give Lewis Hamilton a comprehensive preparation process ahead of his first full-time season. Hamilton, who has decided to join the Italian team after winning six F1 titles with Mercedes, will make his Ferrari debut at the Australian Grand Prix.
However, this will not be the first time the British driver has been behind the wheel of a Ferrari.
According to Motorsport.com Italy, Hamilton will drive an old Ferrari at Fiorano on February 20 or 21. The drive, which is planned to be weather-dependent, will be followed by another test program in Barcelona at the end of January.
Changes to Testing Regulations
According to new rules that came into effect this year, full-time drivers will be able to test a maximum of 1,000 kilometers with old cars. This distance can be completed over four days.
Charles Leclerc will not be able to test with an old Ferrari this year, as Hamilton has been given the full opportunity to test, according to Ferrari’s plan. The Italian team is organizing these additional tests to help Hamilton get comfortable with his new teammates and engineers.
Barcelona Testing Period Could Be Extended
According to RacingNews365, the test week in Barcelona could last longer than four days. This is not because of the track time, but to help Hamilton better integrate with the Ferrari team.
Ferrari will unveil its new 2025 car at Fiorano on February 19. The launch will take place one day after the F1 75 event in London, which will feature 10 teams.
