Jordan against DRS: “This ridiculous rule must be removed”

Former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan stated that F1 should abolish DRS, describing the system as “fundamentally wrong” and a “ridiculous rule.”

DRS was introduced in 2011 to facilitate overtaking following the dull Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the end of the 2010 season. In that race, Fernando Alonso was unable to overtake Vitaly Petrov and lost the championship to Sebastian Vettel.

Since then, DRS has become a permanent feature in Formula 1. Ancak Sao Paulo Grand Prix’si sonrası Formula fg☺or Success podcastinde konuşan eski F1 pilotu David Coulthard, Brezilya’daki yağmurlu yarışın DRS olmadan da mükemmel geçtiğini vurguladı:

“In Brazil, we saw a great race in humid and wet conditions without DRS. I think DRS makes overtaking too easy. In the past, there was the excitement and effort to create the opportunity for an overtake. I would definitely support reducing the impact of DRS.”

Jordan’s Criticisms

Jordan, on the other hand, expressed his criticisms of DRS in a stronger tone. Jordan, describing the system as directly “wrong,” compared DRS to a boxer having one hand tied behind their back:

“If everything artificial prevents the emergence of a dramatic and honest story, it is wrong.” DRS is fundamentally wrong. We watched an amazing race in Brazil. Diyelim ki Lando [Norris] startta avantaj sağladı ama üçüncü turda bir saniyelik farkı açamadı ve Leclerc DRS mesafesine girdi. He is accelerating and passing from behind. To me, this is not a battle. “This is not a fair fight.”

Jordan sees this as taking away a driver’s right to defend.

“If you can’t do something fairly and honestly, why are we punishing a good driver and making them lose their position because of a ridiculous rule like DRS?” I am definitely against this. You can call me old-fashioned, but my opinion won’t change.
